How a Bright Accent Wall Adds Depth and Presence to a Room
October 27, 2016Designing your new home is a wonderful way to express your creativity and make your home perfect for you. One way to bring color and texture your home quickly and easily is by adding an accent wall to a room. Depending on the color, the light, and the placement you can create the illusion of a larger room that is inviting and visually intriguing. Here is how we suggest planning and painting your accent wall.
How to Pick Your Color
You will want to paint the room a color that reflects the room’s purpose and ambiance. If you are painting an accent wall in the living room or kitchen you will want a color that is warm and inviting. This is so you and your guests can feel comfortable in your home. If you are painting an accent wall in your bedroom, however, you may need a cool and calming color. This will help you unwind after a long day and drift off to dreamland.
From there, you will need to decide if it is a glossy or matte wall. Different textures create different feelings in a home. If you have a modern or minimally designed home you can work with either glossy or matte. If you have a more traditional home, however, you may want to use a matte paint to blend with the organic textures of your home. This way it will remain rustic without seeming antiquated.
How to Pick Your Wall
Once you have picked the color you want for an accent wall, it is time to pick the wall itself. In each room, there will be walls that have more light and other walls that have less. If you are painting an accent wall a cool or pastel color, you can paint the wall with less light. This will help open up the room and make it feel more spacious. If you are using a warm or more dramatic color, however, you will want to paint the wall with the most light. This way, the wall does not feel as though it is swallowing all the light in the room, and will simply add texture and warmth to your home without overwhelming the room.
Accent walls are a wonderful and simple way to add color, texture, and light into any home. It can be done in a weekend project or over time. It does not take a massive amount of planning and can make your home look chic and put together.
