August 21, 2017

Deep cleaning your home can be a challenge. But, it’s a surefire way to keep your home looking beautiful for years to come. Deep cleaning can have positive effects on your health, as well as save you some money!

Here are a few ways to keep your home sparkling:

1. Clean Your Mattress

Cleaning your mattress will help you sleep better. Over time, mattresses collect a copious amount of dust, skin cells, and other debris. To clean your mattress, you will need baking soda, a kitchen strainer, and a vacuum cleaner. First, sprinkle baking soda through the strainer and onto the bare mattress and let it sit for at least an hour. After the allotted time has passed, vacuum the baking soda off the mattress. Now you have a deodorized, clean, and moisture-free mattress. Sweet dreams!

2. Clean Bathroom Grout

Using bleach and baking soda, you can clean your grout thoroughly and efficiently. You will need to start by mixing the bleach and baking soda together. Make a paste of 2 parts baking soda to 1 ½ parts bleach. Next, use rubber gloves and old tooth brushes to gently scrub the concoction into the grout. Then, rinse and wipe away the mixture from the grout and let it air dry. Do not leave the mixture on the grout for too long, as the grout will reabsorb the dirt. You will be amazed by the drastic results.

3. Clean the Fridge

You will first need to turn off the breaker to your refrigerator and unplug it. Let it dry before beginning to clean. Once the fridge has been brought to room temperature, wipe down the shelves and drawers. You can use warm water and dish soap, or disinfecting wipes for the interior.

Cleaning the Refrigerator Coils

Cleaning the refrigerator coils is a must at least once a year. This can save you over $50 a year in electricity bills, and will keep your home safer over time. You will want to clean the coils before or after you clean the rest of the fridge. Be sure the refrigerator is not plugged in and at room temperature. Remove the panel at the bottom that holds the coils. Wipe it thoroughly, and place it somewhere clean to allow it to dry.

Then, use your vacuum cleaner to clean out what you can of the dust wrapped around the coils. Afterward, use a narrow brush to dust the coils you can’t clean with a vacuum cleaner. Once you have dusted the refrigerator coils, vacuum around the area once more and then sweep the floor surrounding the refrigerator. After completing this process, compare your electricity bills and see the difference!
