3 Funky Bathroom Decor Ideas

April 11, 2017

While modern aesthetics tend to lean towards whites or neutral colors, there just doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of room for imagination when it comes to the bathroom. That’s not to say that a neutral bathroom can’t look good, but you can get a little creative with your bathroom design. Instead of going the safe route, why not shake things up a bit? Instead of the neutral, the plain, and the ordinary, it’s time to get FUNKY! Here are some funky bathroom decor ideas to inspire you:

1. Dig that Fresh Color!

One of the best parts about going with a funky bathroom design is that you have so many more color options than you would otherwise. Bring in the strong primaries to create a colorful and bold palette. Try blending in some purples. If you’re feeling daring, you could even play around with neon accents! If you want to break away from the ordinary, then color is a quick and easy way to go about it.

A little wary of rocking neon green in the bathroom? That’s okay. Why not start small at first and see how you feel about it. Quite a surprising number of bathroom accessories come in some amazing colors, neons not excluded. This is a great way to add a fun little pop of color without making the room feel too busy or overwhelming.

2. Play with Your Wall Coverings

If you really want to step outside the realm of the ordinary and have some fun with your bathroom design, why not try changing up some of the materials you’re using for the walls. While you’ll still need a drywall base, you can use materials in a new way to really change the game.

It’s funky and definitely one-of-a-kind, but imagine old metal license plates covering an accent wall. How awesome would that be to connect to your den or man cave? Metal signs not your bag? You can also experiment with brick interior walls, wooden siding, and even some unlikely to create a brand new look and feel for these funky water closets.

3. Get Creative With Tile and Lights

When you’re thinking about your bathroom design, take some time and give a little thought to your material options. You can really pull off some great looks with a little creative tile laying. If you’re artistically inclined, consider building your own tile mosaics to add a lot of visual interest and a personal touch to your home.

Lighting is another important facet of designing the perfect funky bathroom. Take a look at some retro or vintage light fixtures to shed a little light on your design. If you haven’t had a chance, take a look at the old school style “Edison” bulbs. Not only are these unique lighting fixtures, but they can also add a touch of industrial interior design to your bathroom.

Funky, retro, and vintage are all design styles that can offer a lot of visual interest to your bathroom as well as giving it a truly unique look. If you’re still a little shy about diving headfirst into a completely funky design, you can always play around with funky bathroom decor and accents to see how you like it!
