January 19, 2017

Along with your “Eat well, work out more, and wake up earlier,” you may want to consider giving your home a list of resolutions as well. This can not only help you get in shape and eat better but you will beautify an organize your space along the way! Here are a few options to revamp your home in the New Year!

1. Get Fit and Update Your Home

By updating your home you may actually burn calories in the process. For example, here are a few calorie-burning chores that will make you and your home look great!

  • One hour of carpet and floor cleaning – 156 calories
  • One hour of general cleaning – 136 calories
  • 15 minutes of putting away groceries – 26 calories
  • One hour of moving furniture – 340 calories
  • Doing laundry – 68 calories

2. Use Reusable Materials

Use glass or durable Tupperware in your home so you do not end up throwing away warped or over-used Tupperware. While it may cost more it will last longer than the inexpensive options. You may also want to give reusable towels a try instead of regular paper towels. These can be just as convenient without being wasteful. You can either make your own or purchase them online. Even if you end up switching back to paper towels you will always have a security roll ready to go!

3. Replace Filters

Changing your filters on a monthly basis will help your home smell fresher and it will actually be safer. This will keep your filters from growing mold or becoming a possible fire hazard. You can also get a dehumidifier to help keep your air clean and fresh.

4. Clean Your Dryer Vent

Always, always, always clean your dryer vent. This will keep your home safe and will save you from possible fire hazards. Dryer vent fires are surprisingly common and deadly. A clean vent is a safe vent.

5. Revamp Your Spice Rack

Revamping your spice rack can be a great excuse to update your diet and your daily food intake. Update the common spices like salt, pepper, parsley, and rosemary and add a few new ones like turmeric and Ceylon cinnamon. You will be amazed by the new flavors and culinary inspiration.

6. Declutter

Decluttering can be a wonderful way to keep your home looking polished and organized without completely overhauling your home. Simply taking out 15 minutes to declutter and dust your home every day will make a major difference in the appearance of your home.

7. Donate

Though it may seem silly to donate your ridiculous bald eagle coffee mug or your grandmother’s old doily collection someone will find it and absolutely love it. So go ahead, let it go, then you’ll have more space and will be more comfortable.
