How to Spruce up a Guest Bathroom
June 11, 2019Unless you regularly have guests staying over in your home, your guest bathroom is probably not on your mind and likely doesn’t get a lot of attention. Whether you realize you’ve been ignoring your guest bathroom for a while now or you have someone coming to stay, it’s a good idea to check in and spruce up your guest bathroom. Here’s how to spruce up a guest bathroom:
1. Do a Deep Clean
It’s important to spot clean your guest bathroom on a regular basis. It’s also a good idea to deep clean your guest bathroom periodically and particularly before you have guests arriving to stay. Not only does this help maintain your bathroom, but it also ensures your guests have a clean and presentable bathroom during their stay.
2. Look it Over
After cleaning, take a moment to really look over your guest bathroom. Think about the overall impression, look, and feel you get in the room. This can help you identify problem spots or even just think about an addition that will help spruce things up. For example, some fresh flowers in a vase can add a beautiful decor element to your guest bathroom that can also make the room feel warmer and more inviting.
You may also notice that storage is a bit sparse or that there is an expanse of wall that seems a little too empty. As you look over the room, anything that is obviously missing will often pop out, which gives you a chance to add a rack, shelving, art, and more to improve and complete the room.
3. Take Inventory
Another way to spruce up your guest bathroom and ensure it’s ready for guests is to take inventory of what you have inside the room. Are there enough towels? Is there soap? How about extra toiletries? What about toilet paper?
By taking inventory of what you currently have, you can add what you need and supply what’s missing. You can also create a welcome basket in your guest bathroom of travel-size toiletries to help make your guests more comfortable and to provide anything they may have forgotten to pack and bring with them.
In addition to the standard shampoo, conditioner, and soap, you can also include an extra toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash. You can even include a fresh razor and small can of shaving cream to complete your welcome package. Plus, you can store and arrange these items in a beautiful basket or interesting box and leave it on the bathroom counter. Not only does this become a welcoming and useful addition to your guest bathroom, but it also adds a nice touch to the overall decor as well.
4. Add Useful Details
A basket of extra toiletries is a great useful detail to add to your guest bathroom, but don’t stop there. Think about what other details you can add that will be useful to your guests, make them feel welcome, and help them stay comfortable during their stay.
This could be a set of folded towels already set out for them, instruction for the shower, and other items. Take inspirations from hotels too as this can give you some great ideas for adding a little extra hospitality to your guest bathroom.
You could even include a note that welcomes them to your home and provides the information they’ll need to know like where to find extra toilet paper, towels, and more. Although you will likely show your guest(s) where to find these items in-person, having a note on hand to reference can help your guests have an easier stay, especially if they tend not to ask for things for fear that they will come across as “needy” or a “bother”. Adding welcoming touches like these is one of the tips for how to design a modern & welcoming guest bathroom.
