How to Keep Your Home Cozy During Winter
January 12, 2017Now that the chaos of the holidays is over you can bundle up, read a good book, and try to stay warm through the winter. If you are like me, however, you have stripped down your home to make room for food, guests, and post-holiday cleaning. Here are a few ways to make your home cozier and inviting for you and your family during the bitter months of winter:
1. Change Up Textures
Now that you can put away the Christmas decorations and accents get a few blankets, rugs, and sheets that are soft and warm. Not only are cozy textiles one of the winter home trends, but you can also warm up after a long day at work with a hot cup of tea, Netflix, and a fuzzy blanket. You can also keep your warm nice and warm by changing any air filters on a regular basis and keeping the place clean. This will help warm air move more efficiently and comfortably.
2. Update Your Bedding
Invest in a new pair of flannel sheets for the winter. These will keep you nice and warm no matter how dramatic the temperature drop and will also feel snuggling soft throughout the night. If you run hot, however, you may want to invest in lighter or silk sheets. These will also keep you warm without being too hot or uncomfortable.
3. Don’t Be Afraid Of Color
A pop of color can add warmth and an inviting ambiance to your home during the snowy and cold part of the year. You can use warm colors to make your home feel warm and cozy or cool colors to make your home appear more calm and relaxing. If you want to add color be sure that it works well with your existing décor and textures. While you shouldn’t be afraid to play with different elements while decorating your home you should try to keep everything in order and within the same realm to keep everything comfy and cozy.
4. Lighten Up
Bringing in different or updated light fixtures can really change the feel of a room. Using soft lighting and different light fixtures can make your home interesting, inviting, and different. I enjoy using string lights around my living room and bedroom to create soft lighting while in the dining room and kitchen I have brighter lights so I don’t have any kitchen accidents or mishaps. Bathrooms can change when necessary. It’s nice to have a dimmer installed so you can either have a bright light while brushing your teeth or a warm glow during your bubble bath.
