The Purpose and Benefits of Mudrooms

January 10, 2017

Mudrooms have become incredibly popular over the past few years. They are simple, easy-to-install, and versatile. Here are a few ways you can use mudrooms other than just a place to hang your hat.

Coat Room

You can go traditional and use your mudroom for hanging coats, backpacks, and briefcases. This keeps the actual living space in your home clutter free and less stressful. You can have a mudroom placed in your custom home, installed in your current home, or you can DIY your mudroom with hooks, lockers, and closets. Find whatever works for you and your family.

Laundry Room

If you are strapped for square footage, you can add a laundry room to the mudroom. Laundry rooms can be placed in many different rooms in the home but having it in the mudroom keeps it in a convenient part of the home without overwhelming the living space with noise or ruckus. If you decide to put your washer and dryer in your mudroom be sure to put the washer and dryer close to the entryway to your home and far from the well, mud of the mudroom. That way clean laundry stays clean.

Storage and Organization

Storage and organization works well within a mudroom. You can keep off-season clothing, workout equipment, and landscape gear in a closet or storage area to avoid clutter in the home and keep everyone in the family organized and prepared.

Pet Wash Station

Your friends and family are not the only ones that can track mud into your home. Your furry friends may have a difficult time not dragging in leaves, twigs, branches, and everything in between. If you have a cat or dog it may be a good idea to invest in a pet wash station. This way you and your pet can clean up before heading into the home and relaxing after a long walk, strenuous hike, or epic fetch session.

Garage and Mudroom

Again if you have a limited amount of space in your home you can make the mudroom a part of the garage. This way you do not have to sacrifice the convenience of a garage and a mudroom but you do not have to feel uncomfortable and cramped.
