3 Pinterest House DIYs That Don’t Work
August 9, 2017Pinterest can be a fantastic place to find new DIY home projects or just a bit of inspiration. If you have seen Pinterest DIYs, however, you probably know they don’t always work out. You may have even attempted your own. Don’t worry! You’re not alone.
Here are a few Pinterest fails we found in hopes of encouraging you to keep going:
1. Garland Light
This DIY light was intended to be a whimsical accent for any woodland or fairy-loving home. It, however, turned out to be less than ideal. With a lack of materials, and planning, this DIY project was trouble from the start. Luckily, with every Pinterest fail there is a chance for redemption!
If you decide to graduate to a new level of DIY, be sure to give yourself plenty of prep time, a complete list of materials, and even more patience. With these simple, but necessary, recommendations you will be well on your way to a more cohesive project.
2. Penny Countertops
With Pinterest came the popularity of penny floors and countertops. For pennies on the dollar, you can have a beautiful copper floor or countertop without the copper price tag. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize the detail, focus, and patience that creating a penny countertop or floor requires. Not only will you be constantly wiping glue off the surface to avoid warping, but you will also need to find the right glue, finish, and pennies.
When you have made the decision to take on such an endeavor, be sure to have all the pennies shined and ready to go. Then, you won’t have to worry about them changing color after they have been finished, or becoming tarnished over time. You should also experiment with types of glue and finish before committing to using either on the final surface. Then, you won’t kick yourself for ruining the table or the kitchen floor.
3. DIY Hanging String Ball
These string balls can make nifty lamps, accents, or bowls that bring depth and beauty to your home. All hanging string balls, however, are not created equal.
Sometimes they deflate, or dry incorrectly, or just blatantly fall apart. Without patience, plenty of glue, and even more glue, your hanging string balls are all but destined for failure. Make sure you have plenty of time and space for this messy craft and even more time for it to dry and be molded.
Pinterest can be a lot of fun and can add so much to your home. But, start small! Trying small projects first allows you to practice for larger pieces before going on to your goal. Then, you will have plenty of confidence to move on! You’ll be able to take pride in your progress even if the first craft doesn’t go as planned.
