1. Longwood Gardens
Located in Kennett Square is Longwood Gardens. With over 1,077 acres of meadows, woodlands, and gardens, this botanical garden is worth several visits. In addition to the standard exhibits, there are also special exhibits, displays, performances, and events throughout the year. The illuminated fountain performances and light installations are popular events for locals and tourists alike.
There is even a restaurant, cafe, and beer garden on the grounds where you can have a meal and/or a drink to enjoy provided you have a ticket to the gardens or a membership. 1906 is a restaurant that offers a full-service dining experience. Reservations in advance are highly recommended. The Café offers a la carte menus as well as indoor and outdoor seating. The Beer Garden allows outdoor dining as long as weather permits.
2. Highland Orchards
If quality produce and picking your own fruit are things you love, then the Highland Orchards in West Chester is the perfect stop. There are special “pick your own” seasons from May through October where you can harvest your own seasonal fruit and purchase it by weight.
In addition to the PYO (pick your own) activities, there is also a farm market and bakery where you can purchase produce and goods. There are also special events throughout the year and plenty of fall activities to enjoy on the farm; a corn maze, hay rides, and apple cannons are just a few.
3. Marsh Creek Swimming Pool
Located in Downingtown is the Marsh Creek Swimming Pool. If you want a place to relax and cool off in the summer, this half-acre pool could be a perfect choice. In addition to the swimming pool, there is also a splash pad with various showers, fountains, and other water features.
Plus, there is a barbecue area if you want to make it a day trip and have a break to make and eat some food. They also have a full-service food bar if you don’t want to rent a pavilion and bring food. Also, the pool is located inside Marsh Creek Park so there are plenty of things to do and enjoy aside from swimming.
4. Marsh Creek State Park
In addition to the Marsh Creek Swimming Pool, the Marsh Creek State Park offers several other activities and amenities as well. The park features 1,784 acres including Marsh Creek Lake, which is 535 acres. There are plenty of trails available for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. In the winter, there is also sledding, cross-country skiing, and even ice skating.
The lake is great for watching wildlife, boating, and fishing. If your boat is registered and you have a launch permit, you can use your own boat. Boat rentals, including paddleboards, kayaks, sailboats, and more, are also available. But, you are not permitted to swim in the lake. If you want to swim, you’ll have to head to the pool.
5. QVC Studio Tour
For fans of QVC and Shark Tank, the QVC Studio Tour in West Chester is a fun stop. You can take a tour to see the process of filming a QVC spot and also explore the retail store that features a variety of sold-on-TV products.
There are even QVC Outlet Stores in Lancaster and Frazer. In addition to the tour and the store, you can even sign up online to be considered to become a member of the live audience when opportunities are available.
6. Herr’s Snack Factory and Visitor’s Center
When it comes to chips and pretzels, Herr’s is a Pennsylvania classic and favorite. Herr’s Snack Factory is located in Nottingham and you can take an in-depth tour of the factory to see how the potato chips are made.
The guided tour features audiovisual content and then, you can pick up souvenirs to take home at the end in the visitor’s center and gift shop. There are also community events throughout the year to enjoy. The free, drive-through Holiday Lights Display throughout the corporate campus is popular.
