Funky Home DécorFebruary 7, 2017
While country rustic, modern, and nautical are all wonderful themes but for some décor needs to be a little more different… Here are a few ideas to make your home uniquely you.
If you’re a fan of macabre there is no reason you can’t have creepy crawlies or ghostly décor around your home all year round. For some, this means having an extra large Ouija board as a coffee table while for others it may mean something subtler like gossamer tablecloths or lace wall hangings. For those that love something spooky and subtle you can use whimsical drapes, Victorian accents, or fun horror movie posters. Why not show your spooky side along with your wonderful decorating skill?
A pop of color can be the perfect solution to drab or boring decorating. Fluorescent accents have become popular in the last few years because of their in-your-face color and their ability to make the mundane marvelous. While you can use furniture pieces such as side tables or chairs to create a bright and colorful room you can be subtler with fluorescent coasters or knick-knacks. You will love the bright and beautiful new home and your home will be interesting and memorable to your guests.
Upcycling is a great way to decorate your home inexpensively and with plenty of creativity. This doesn’t mean you should cover your home with throwaways and Goodwill trinkets but it does mean you can create beautiful pieces with reclaimed wood, vintage paper, and old china. You will have a home that showcases your personality and will look perfectly put together.
DIY reupholstering can be difficult and rewarding all at once. You can bring new life to an ancient piece of furniture or create a beautiful piece out of a not-so-stunning sofa or recliner. Before you begin however be sure to have a plan so you will know exactly what to do through the whole process. Otherwise, you will end up with a half reupholstered chair sitting in your driveway waiting for the garbage truck to pick it up.
