Weekly Roundupby Kuhrich on Friday, May 17, 2013
It’s Roundup time! Today we’re going to wrastle some great new products and also one of the most creative DIY project ideas that I’ve come across in quite a while.
One of most noticeable trends that we’ve observed during our home design process is that many of our clients are gravitating away from installing both a soaking tub and separate shower to installing just one large full tile shower in their Master Bathrooms. Often times we are coordinating all types of textures and colors throughout the shower, but are then somewhat limited when trying to match or downplay the center floor drain. California Faucets created a product that does an excellent job solving this problem. It’s called StyleDrain Tile. This low profile drain system allows a tile to be installed directly over top of it while the water on the shower floor drains by cascading down around the central tile. Boom! Design problem solved.
Another great new product that has won a number of awards for its innovative design is the Haiku Ceiling Fan by a little company known as Big Ass Fans. Yes, that’s really their name. I’m serious. Anyway, this fan features a sleek minimalist design and utilizes a powerful LED light instead of a traditional bulb, which can provide the brightness of a 100 watt bulb while only using 20 watts of electricity. The LED bulb is also supposed to last for 17 years. This fan has blades with a 60″ wingspan as well as 10 settings that can definitely help to cool a room down efficiently.
I saved the best for last. Here is a simple yet genius Do-it-yourself project that can help to both add a family style decorative accent and also provide additional workspace to any Kitchen, craft or work space countertop. In her article, Hanging Mason Jar Storage, blogger Alyssa Sparacino shows a great way to store small items while keeping them off of the actual countertop or work station. This is just a good idea – period. Check it out!
That’s it for now. Have a great weekend.
