Why Lititz is the Coolest Small Town to Call Homeby CustomHomes on Friday, November 10, 2017
Lititz is a small town created by Moravians to have a community all their own. It was founded in 1756. Lititz has opened its doors to people of all different creeds and is an amazing small town because of it.
If you are considering moving to Lititz, here is just a small sample of the things you can see and do:
1. Lititz Springs Park
Originally, the Lititz Springs Park was cared for and maintained by the Moravian Church. They opened the park for the public to enjoy, and for cattle to graze, as well as drink from the spring. Over the years, however, the burden of caring for the seven-acre park became too much to handle for the congregation. The responsibility was then given to the Lititz Board of Trustees.
Since then, the park has continually grown to host events, concerts, a playground, and a duck pond. While there, you can also visit the Lititz historical museum and head across the street to the Wilbur chocolate store! It’s a perfect way to spend an afternoon.
2. Hands-on-House Children’s Museum
The Hands-on-House Children’s Museum is a wonderful place to let children, and children-at-heart, explore a variety of exhibits. The Hands-on-House is geared toward children ages two through ten, and offers all-day access with admission. Children must be supervised, and each group of four needs an adult.
The museum is all on one floor and is wheelchair accessible. They also have a small gift shop that offers a wide range of products for every price range. There are picnic facilities as well as many restaurants in the surrounding area. The museum is open year-round, excluding the outdoor exhibits.
The museum has exhibits that help children learn about the world around them. For example, the Corner Grocery exhibit, Play Garden, Face Painting Porch, Post Office, Your Own Backyard, and many other exhibits.
3. Main Street Shops
Main Street in Lititz, PA offers plenty of specialty shops that you can explore. Here is a short list of just a few of the Main Street Shops you can enjoy:
a.heather.co is a ladies clothing store that has everything from jewelry to furniture. It displays unique and beautiful clothing from around the world, and also supports local artists and craftsmen.
A Tea Affair
This is a small shop connected to a charming tea room that offers a French-style High Tea service. They sell fine teas, teaware, coffee, and tea accessories. It’s perfect for the tea aficionado, or anyone who wants to try something new!
Aaron’s Books is an independent bookstore that sells new and used books. They create different events throughout the year that bibliophiles will adore.
Ken’s Music Center
Ken’s Music Center sells, and services, new and used musical instruments. They have guitars (bass and classical), drums, PA systems, mandolins, vintage drums, banjos, amps, speakers, brass, and woodwind instruments. You will find beautiful instruments here, and are encouraged to play – as long as it isn’t “Stairway to Heaven”.
Last, but certainly not least, there is Wilbur Chocolate. This is a Lititz staple that has delicious chocolate, interesting tours, free samples, and beautiful gifts to send to friends and loved ones. It’s a must-see stop for anyone who visits Lititz.
4. Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania
The Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania, located in Lititz, offers the rare opportunity to see wolves in their natural habitat from a safe distance. All tours must be booked in advance. There are public as well as private tours, and even a full moon tour. All proceeds go to the wolf sanctuary and offer a better life for the wolves.
Because the wolves are wild, there are no pets allowed on the property. You are also not allowed to drink alcohol, run, or take video. These can startle the wolves and can put a group in danger. Be sure to read over the sanctuary’s rules before attending a tour to keep everyone safe.
5. Lititz Fire and Ice Festival
Lititz also hosts hundreds of events throughout the year. One of the most notable is the Lititz Fire and Ice Festival. During this weekend there is an ice sculpture display on the streets for all to enjoy. Fire and Ice also has a chili cook-off with delicious peppery concoctions from all over the county. You can also visit the carnival or enjoy watching a game of dodgeball.
Lititz is a large small town that has irresistible appeal and gorgeous neighborhoods. Stop by, explore, and discover if this is the place for you!
